On Friday, April 8, the President of the Hospiten Group, Dr Pedro Luis Cobiella Suarez, received the Gold Medal from El Puerto de la Cruz, the highest honor that can be bestowed by a town council, at a moving ceremony held in the main hall at the Puerto de la Cruz Town Hall at 7 o'clock in the evening in the presence of 200 guests. The award, approved unanimously at a plenary session, was given in recognition of his long professional and personal career in El Puerto de la Cruz.

Pedro Luis Cobiella Suarez, born in La Villa de la Orotava in 1936, holds a Degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Madrid and is a specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics. He currently holds the positions of President of the Hospiten Group, President of the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Madrid, President of the Federation of Private Clinics for the Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and President of the IDIS (Institute for the Development and Integration of Healthcare).

Among other awards, Pedro Luis Cobiella has received the Gold Medal of the Canaries 2007, conferred by the Canary Government; the Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2006 in the Canaries, awarded by Ernst and Young in collaboration with IESE and Vocento; the Tourism Award in Tenerife 2006, conferred by Turismo de Tenerife; The Gold Medal for Important People in Tourism 2006, awarded by the Canary Government; Gold Medal from the Initiative and Tourism Center in El Puerto de la Cruz 2004; the Best Canary Businessman Award 2003, conferred by Actualidad Economica; the Arturo J. Escuder Croft Prize 2003 for his professional career, conferred by the Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce.
