Resonancia Magnética

In 1990, HOSPITEN put into operation the first magnetic resonance machine in the Canary Islands. Today there are three machines available: two in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and one at Hospiten Sur.

It should be noted that two of the machines are manufactured by Alto Campo (1.5 Tesla) and incorporate all the latest advances in image-based diagnosis applicable to all branches of medicine.

An important contribution has been made by Cardio Magnetic Resonance and advanced programmes for myocardial perfusion, as well as the availability of functional programmes in nervous-system pathology (diffusion sequences, perfusion and cerebral spectroscopy), along with the use of sequences that improve the diagnosis of inner-ear pathology. All of this brings great benefits not only in morphology but also in tissue composition.

The introduction of Angio MR improves the diagnosis of vascular pathology not only in the nervous system but also in the rest of the human body.

Magnetic resonance has meant great advances in the diagnosis of articular and vertebral pathology, owing to its high resolution in the visualisation of bone marrow and ligaments. For similar reasons of resolution and the absence of risk, there have been significant improvements in the diagnosis of vascular, cerebral and medullary pathologies.

Over 200,000 patients have attended our centres, with more than 300,000 explorations carried out.
