Vertebroplastia

What is Vertebroplasty?

Vertebroplasty is a technique which consists in injecting of acrylic cement, using a needle, into a damaged vertebra so as to fill it, thus relieving pain. It is performed under local anaesthetic. Patients stay at the hospital for 24 hours.

 When is it prescribed?

In patients suffering pain from vertebral lesions caused by:

  • Osteoporosis.
  •  Metastasis producing diminution or crushing of the vertebra.
  •  Fractures and other malformations in one or more vertebra(e).

Advantages:

In a high percentage of patients (90%), pain is rapidly reduced or disappears completely.

This is a non-aggressive technique which allows the patient to quickly resume his/her daily routine.
